I can't figure out what we should do in Afghanistan, so it's hard for me to be real critical of policy there. It feels like every choice sucks.

Again, if we don't know in which set of circumstances fewer Afghans will die, pick the one that does not involve us killing any of them directly.

I'm not a pacifist, but I think pacifists have one very good point. The burden of proof should always be on the side the argues killing people is the right choice. In baseball tie goes to the runner. In foreign policy, tie should go to not bombing, or shooting people.

I feel like I'm molting. I hate winter. I wonder if I escaped the worst of this last year by spending three weeks in New Orleans.

Thanksgiving is going to be interesting in my mom's house this year - it is the first year all of us kids are together with our parents for Thanksgiving in like 13 years. We are a fairly political (and very passionate about it) family. We are also (pretty) liberal to a fault (not really, but phrase used to illustrate how liberal we are, and I say pretty because my BiL is Catholic and I'm not quite sure where he stands on things).

Anyway, I imagine that health reform is going to be on the table for discussion which should be interesting because Sen. Stupak's son Kevin is one of my brother's best friends. They were roommates all through college. Even though the Senator isn't our family's Senator, he's still a close friend of my brother's. So it'll be interesting to see if the conversation does go there.

All that being said, Stupak is a Dem and a Catholic, and a jackass to boot.

Man I am having a crazy day. So the court thing I thought mac and I had tomorrow was really today. I got an alarm about it shortly after getting to work and started frantically calling the lawyer to verify which was correct, my home calendar or my work one. No answer from her and no return call. I finally had to just risk it and bailed out of work (at which point the lawyer calls me from her cell wanting to know where I am). I ran home, grabbed mac's official documents, got him out of school, got a car service and got out to Jamaica (as far away in Queens as possible) all in about 50 minutes. Officially I was an hour late, but we still got heard and I have an official US certified adoption decree AND we have legal spelling change and middle name change for mac.

We celebrated with lunch at McD and cupcakes. Now I'm back at work and he's at the cube beside me playing DS. Now I'm on to researching what forms I need for changing the name on his SSC, getting a Cert of Citizenship from Homeland Security, and filing for a US Passport.

I found out today that my passport expired last year, it's going to be much more a pain getting a new one now, isn;t it?

I feel like I'm desiccating, like in that episode of Angel. I apply lip balm and lotion constantly, and am chugging the water. When I lived in Moldova I complained about the dry air and my friend from Colorado complained about the humidity.

It shouldn't matter as long as you have the old one to send them. I did that this summer with a passport that was several months past the expiration date, and it was the same process as a non-expired one would have been.
