The Kwanzaa Kake is TERRIFYING! I do NOT acknowledge the existence of "semi-homemade." That's insane crap.
all that equipment, hockey registrations, and travel tournaments can run into a couple of grand a year, even for a casual player.
WORD. Hockey is ridiculously expensive. I can't remember growing up if football was as expensive. Gymnastics clearly was though.
I had my English muffin separately with blackberry jam on it. Still delicious. Also, be careful of the power of your microwave. I almost exploded my little quiche reheating it.
For serious, Dana. This blog post about it [link] also references the pumpkin cheesecake situation mentioned earlier...
WHUT?
Angel food cake, frosting, apple pie filling dumped in the opening of the cake and sprinkled with pumpkin seeds and corn nuts.
But... but... the Chanukah cake? It's eight nights' worth of wrong.

At least the Chanukah cake is just cake+frosting!

That's a good way to ruin a perfectly good angel food cake....

It's not as expensive as hockey. There's no need for a special building, just grass and chalk. Equipment is not as expensive, since cleats are cheaper than skates. also, football is more likely to be sponsored, so a lot of those costs are not passed down to the player/parent.
Also, be careful of the power of your microwave. I almost exploded my little quiche reheating it.
hence the 50% power recommendation. i had eggy microwave as well as little acrid black lumps.
Oh my god. That recipe has you buying a cheesecake and a pumpkin pie and dismantling them to whip with cream and pour into cookie shells. Aside from a pain in the ass and a ton of mess, that's like $20 worth of groceries. But, no corn nuts.
It's not as expensive as hockey.
Part of the problem as well (as my parents found out first hand) is that with football and other sports you can generally figure out if the kid has the slightest talent or affinity for the game
before
investing in all the equipment. Hockey, not so much.
