"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

I believe there are a few Yankees fans on the board, so be careful about broad generalizations!

True dat. My apologies to any Buffista Yankees fans. The problem is, the douchey sports fans are generally the ones you notice most, especially if they are fans of a visiting team. And Yankees fans seem to come up for games more than most other fans (see also, the Canadiens).

Lord knows, though, that there have been more than a few times I've been embarassed by fans of our local teams in a serious "Can you not be on my side, please?" way.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Several years ago, my family went to a game at Fenway. (I don't remember who the Red Sox were playing, but it wasn't the Yankees.) As we were walking from our car to the stadium, we passed by a bunch of stands selling "Yankees Suck" shirts. I said to my sister that it was silly that they were selling those shirts on a day when the Red Sox weren't even playing the Yankees. She responded, "Yeah, and anyway, Yankees don't suck. Yankees rock." I felt in my pockets for how much money I had and told her I'd give her a dollar if she shouted that. So she shouted, "Yankees Rock!" and I gave her a dollar, and then my mom lectured both of us about how she thought we were smart enough to not do something so stupidly dangerous.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Seriously, the sore-looserness is getting fucking old.

From who?

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

The incessant Yankee hate. I haven't kept a list of who. It's old and really can take a breather now.

“Not dead yet!”

As a die-hard Marlins fan we're more stunned when we do well rather than expecting it. And as a die-hard Seminoles fan, I think it's been good for the team to have a run of less than stellar luck the past few years. Good for character.

Funny headline of the day read something along the lines of "George Steinbrenner preparing to purchase rights to Marlins' 2003 World Series."

Yeah, I don't think we do that. Maybe I just haven't noticed, but I don't think there are "Sox Sux" shirts for sale all the time up by the stadium.

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

In sorta-sports related news, it seems that some of the Washington fans are becoming less enthralled with the local football team. Finally.

After years and years of treating fans like crap, after years of being involved in a lawsuit over the team name (if the people you're supposedly honoring find it offensive, dude, it's offensive), after squeezing every dollar out of fans that they possibly can (and some you wouldn't think were possible), it's taken losing in the most humiliating ways possible for fans to get fed up.

Needless to say, I'm not a fan and got tired of the adulation about two years after moving here.

Shit's all sorts of different now.

I am from Detroit. I've heard we *have* professional sports organizations, but I don't think that means what they think it means.
