My god, that's terrible.

Oh, no. How awful.
CNN has a bit more detail, but no information on who did it or why, just that it was two people (eta: they just updated from "two people" to "two people in military uniforms"--shit and damn) and one is still at large.
Oh, man, the questions. That's horrific.
For Billytea (and anyone else who needs to stop hitting refresh on the Ft Hood story) - baby echidnas.
So many contradictory reports. Some sources are saying that one of the gunmen is dead. Others say that one is in custody, the other is at large.
Oh man.
The Twitter feed of a local Texas newspaper seems to be the best source of information right now.
Today has kicked my ass, and it isn't done yet. I have not managed to call back the plumber to schedule a visit. I ate lunch in a meeting where I was speaking at 3 because it was the first chance I had. I have a dentist appt at 6. God only knows when I'll get home & get to the pool, but goddamned I need it tonight.
When there was the bank robbery on Ft. Buchanan, they didn't let us go pick up our kids. So I'm sure the parents who live/work off-post at Ft. Hood aren't able to get their children. Which is sort of freaking me out and making me want to go get mine.
The SRP site is where you go to get checked to see if you are deployable or not. Here at Ft. Carson, one of the better SRP sites, it's extremely high stress. Lots of people unhappy about lots of things. That, and a unit headquarters, are the two places I can imagine someone upset about deploying, deciding to get violent.
The Army is so stressed these days. Those in charge *know* it, but also aren't willing to say they can't do the job, and there just aren't enough people to go around. Joe deals every day with people who feel overwhelmed by the system.
I don't know what my point it, exactly, except that this sort of thing is not surprising when you push a bunch of people to the brink.
One of the many articles I read quickly said that Ft. Hood had one of the lowest suicide rates because the guy in charge was pushing for quality of life improvements. But it's a stressful endeavour at the core.
