Anya, the Shopkeepers of America called. They wanted me to tell you that 'please go' just got replaced with 'have a nice day.'

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

You know, if someone were at home sick with the flu, he could Nilly it up.

I'm over the flu! Mostly. And not at home. (Though on a computer.)

Mostly, though, I am as lazy as a hobbit.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

I think one of the things working against them is that the films were such a big thing, with everyone besides McKellen, Bean, and Blanchett being relatively small name actors going in, that almost none of the hype and public familiarity got transferred to the actors themselves rather than sticking with their characters.

In the time it took me to proclaim my laziness, Scola comes through with the Nilly.

Ahhh, yes. Dead Bear Daddy.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

In the time it took me to proclaim my laziness, Scola comes through with the Nilly.

Embrace the irony.

And the awesomeness that is Scola.

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

And the whole discussion/explanation was in LoTR: The Two Towers (go to the archives, under "Other Media"), starting at post 5106.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

It's funny because I thought they all did well. Viggo got moved up to movie star. And while he didn't make much off LoTR, he made a shit ton on things like Hidalgo. Dom got work on Lost. Orlando became a lead. The name actors - Cate, Ian, Bean - continued to work. Though Bean less so. Elijah's doing the work he wants to do. Sean is mostly directing, which is the direction he was moving towards.

The two actors that could possibly come out of it as stars - Viggo and Orlando - did. And Orlando has gone about as far as his talent will take him.

Viggo's gone on to a particularly fruitful collaboration with Cronenberg.

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

Tom gets there while I'm trying to think of Mark Hamill's name. Also Hayden Christensen. I think real acting careers are accomplished despite huge fantasy franchises, not because of them.
