this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

Alexis Denisof was hilarious and he and Acker had fun bantering chemistry but I kinda thought they didn't have that "OMG they must get it on" type of sizzling romantic chemistry.

No, I didn't think so, either. The only time I *really* dug his performance was when he got up in Claudio's face after the unfinished wedding.

Again, I think Branagh's version imprinted hard on me.

Sean Maher, however, was light years beyond Keanu, although it's a ridiculous role.

And if I had to pick, I'd go with Fillion over Keaton as Dogberry.

OMG the house porn. It left me helpless with longing.

SRSLY.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

For me, the nearest showing of the Branagh/Kingston Macbeth is 60 miles away. I'd drive further.

I saw Much Ado yesterday and loved it! It was hilarious (slut shaming aside) and the audience was really into it, which made it even better. At the end my face hurt from smiling so much.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

Saw Much Ado... yesterday. I had a blast; it was just a couple hours of fun. Amy Acker ought to get a serious career boost off of this (she's been getting phenomenal press; even the critics who didn't have any use for this version had praise for her). I liked Alexis better than I thought I would given what I've read here and elsewhere, but I keep finding his non-Wesley voice distracting.

I was also very impressed with both Reed Diamond (who I'd only seen in Dollhouse) and Clark Gregg.

And Nathan Fillion pretty much stole the show by underplaying, of all things. Deadpan seems like a good way to go with Dogberry given how often the role is done with OTT buffoonery.

She wholeheartedly endorsed the two bits that Joss added and was okay with all the bits that were compressed.

I know the opening morning after was an add, but what was the other?

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

The photographer? Heh. I was wondering about her prominence.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

I am crossing my fingers that the Ridgeway in Memphis keeps showing it over next weekend. There was no way in hell I was making an additional drive yesterday (my head was too stabby and groggy to even go see a stoner comedy at the local cinema, or to sit through an episode of Henry Cavill Gettin' it OnThe Tudors at home, for that matter).

Yep, the opening scene and the bit where Hero watches the funeral procession.

Apparently, _everyone_ includes the damning window scene, which does not appear in the play. BW does not object to this addition because the original play makes Claudio seem irredeemable and Hero a fool for taking him back.

BW also talked about how much she enjoyed the portrayal of the Friar. In fact, she said it was her favorite representation of that character, ever. I feel compelled to write to the actor and say so because, damn, that's high praise.

OH, she also applauded Clark Gregg for Leonato's clear softening to Hero at the end of his 'you are dead to me' scene. She felt that the shift made much more sense than the original text.

AND, she asked if Joss wrote music before (bwah) and said that throughout her entire career, she has _fought_ with directors to do what Joss did by incorporating the text into songs.

She also loved the cinematography and, overall, deemed it a huge improvement on the play.

I loved the movie, for its own sake, but I loved it even more to hear that a leading expert on the source material thought Joss did an amazing job.

FYI, the one word was "Jew."

She also said that the dialogue was delivered more naturally than she'd ever seen it.

The older lady who accompanied us said that she felt like she wasn't 'translating' in her head by about 5 minutes in.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

FYI, the one word was "Jew."

What was it changed to?

Mainly I'm wondering what was so anti-semitic that Joss felt he needed to change it where he was apparently totally comfortable leaving "I would marry her were she an Ethiope" intact.
