Nice. I thought the name sounded really familiar.
Buffista Movies 7: Brides for 7 Samurai
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
I'm going to hope that trailer for Enders Game was awful because there's no way a trailer could sell the actual movie. Which will be as good as the book. Even though the good parts of the boom are all quiet and psychological and require limited special effects or explosions.
This movie is going to suck isn't it?
If you expect it to suck, you might be surprised. If you expect it to be good, you will almost certainly be let down.
This is a specific example of the best general argument that can be made for pessimism.

I don't know if I agree with that. Some nice character-revealing fight scenes, as I recall.
But that trailer looks like it is made of wrongness. Though perhaps it is just all out of context.
Saw Iron Man 3 with Will tonight in 3D and I LOVED IT!
It had me on the edge of my seat at times, it had me laughing, it had me shaking my head at Tony. It was a lot of fun.
More specific thoughts: So I really wasn't sure what was going on with Pepper when she fell, I read some white font here but not a lot so I kept thinking - did an Iron Man suit catch her? Is she in one? The Buffistas would have made noise if she died. And then she was like Magma Woman and it was cool and she got to kick ass. I liked her in the suit at the beginning of the movie too. I kinda hope she gets to keep her super powers, but only brings them out on special occasions.
Also I liked the Happy story line. I wasn't sure what they were really going to do with him, and it sucked he spent most of it in a coma but it felt like a loose end they handled nicely.
and I liked the kid. I thought the kid actor was good. I liked the character, especially the little "I'm cold" line trying to guilt Tony into staying. I liked Tony's interactions with him.
So the bad guy and his army, at the end I felt the explosions weren't people accidentally dying - those were controlled explosions of people who would be liabilty. Like the guy at the Chinese Theater, he was an addict, which made him a liabilty. So Guy Pearce (forgot his character's name already - during most of the movie he was Annoying Blonde Dude to me) used him as a twofer. All the flying Iron Man suits were awesome. It was really cool to see Tony Stark go in and out of different ones.
I think I had other stuff to say but mostly I feel like AGAIN! AGAIN!
Saw Gatsby tonight. Really REALLY liked it. Some definite quibbles, but overall I thought it was great. Not the best 3D I've ever seen, so see it flat it you have the option.
If you hated Moulin Rouge you will also hate this, as they are pretty much the same movie (decadence is awesome, LOVE STORY, death, aww, decadence kinda sucks) moved forward 25 years. Fortunately I loved MR and so thought this was pretty fantastic too.

So I'm going to eat this up with a spoon, is what you're saying. Rock on. Bring on the dazzle!
I thought Moulin Rouge was one of the most (or maybe THE most) sheerly gorgeous films I've ever seen. The trailers for Gatsby make it look pretty damn gorgeous, too.
Is Tobey Maguire as well-cast in the role of Nick as he seems to be?
He is! This and Spider-Man are the only roles I have ever liked him in. Most of the time I find him intolerable, but he was really good for this.
