Okay, the Jessica Biehl shooting the camera thing is pretty awesome.
Also, I liked The Last Samurai, in spite of how ridiculous everything about Cruise's character in that movie is. Also a f*&k ton of Ken Watanabe and several of the other samurai characters in that movie make up for a surprising amount of Tom Cruise.
I walked out of that movie completely in love with every single Japanese actor, and Watanabe was divine. I don't dislike TC on screen, but that one I did have to suppress many eyerolls at yet another movie where the white dude adopts another culture and is also the only one who
makes it out alive
(that the camera seems to care about).
I think Watanabe could literally show up in a movie, not say a word and just flip words on cards in front of the camera, then leave and I would love that movie.
It does not take much for me and Watanabe.
I loved all the secondary and tertiary characters--aside from the wonderful Japanese actors, you had Peter Pettigrew in a serious role--in The Last Samurai. So much. I loved the locations and the sets (Middle Earth!), the costumes. The entire production went a very long way to making up for Tom Cruise. I just sort of watch with my thumb over him when he's onscreen. I want to watch a movie starring Watanabe about all those samurai characters--they were really the stars.
OMG, the ad for Pain & Gain just made me laugh out loud:
"Star-sixty-nine him"
"You want to have sex with him??"
I HATE ONE THIRD OF THAT LINEUP.
But I do also love two thirds of it. So, you know.
Yeah, about that movie -- is The Rock in EVERY damn movie, or just 98% of them?
I saw one commercial for it, and didn't realize that Ed Harris was in it. I dig him. I probably didn't realize he was in it because I was too busy yelling "CHANG!" when Ken Jeong was on the screen.
when Ken Jeong was on the screen.
That's Dr. Ken Jeong, thank you.
I only recently learnt that The Rock is still...cooking? I mean, he's still wrestling from time to time, as well as appearing in all the movies and doing all the junkets. And family, and stuff.
My crush on Dwayne is epic. EPIC. I can't get over his charisma and the comforting heroism he gives off, and the way he's managed the transition from wrestling to acting (without leaving wrestling all the way too) without being a Hulk Hogan or John Cena. He makes me do clappy hands, and that's not even touching how fucking beautiful he is to boot.
And then, Anthony Mackie. He's just...love him too.
