Apart from sports, "my secret favorite thing on earth is ketchup. I will put ketchup on anything. But it has to be Heinz." - my husband, Michael Vartan

Gadget Girl, I'm glad that she has your support. And that's an awesome story.

Everyone's so naked and fit in the diving world, I'm kind of surprised that they're not all gay.

I'm still bitter that I didn't get to see all of the gymnastics gala. Is it just me, or has Olympics enthusiasm in general waned now that gymnastics and swimming are over?

My boy cat has fallen in love with Diet Coke. He's become obsessed. His eyes dilate when he spots the can. And when I found him this morning, he'd somehow snagged one of the empty cans out of the recycling and slept next to it. Should I be concerned?

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

OMG people. I just realized that I accidentally unsubbed to Natter a whole day ago!!

You clearly missed me saying that the hottest woman at the game was the hot German lesbian fencer with the name I can't spell!

I don't think Bolt's anywhere near the cocky ass that, say, Carl Lewis was at his peak. Of course, had there been a Cocky Ass event in '84, Lewis would have gone home with five gold medals, shouting, "In your FACE, Owens!"

Man, his cocky ass was fun to watch. He was so totally the Tyra Banks of track and field.

Just call me "Siouxsie Shunshine".

who you never know, might surprise her

I wish her fears about her family weren't based in reality. Hub, who has known her parents for at least 25 years and knows her mom's parents, said they probably would disown her. Being gay, or different in any way, just isn't acceptable. This is still a very conservative/backwoods area.

She was telling me this past week how much respect she has for Louganis. Seeing him do what she wants to do and be gay has helped her quite a bit.

She has the drive to do anything she puts her mind to do. I want to see her get out of this area and pursue her dreams. She already appreciates the people out there that are rooting for her and accept her for who she is.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

She should tell him that. I've met him twice and he's pretty damn sappy.

Is Drew in Chicago?

Make sure she investigates the programs she looks at very carefully--I know for example that some women's basketball programs at the college level are very anti-lesbian (to the point of smearing other programs and trying scare tactics on recruits' parents saying other programs will make your daugher a big gay and the coach is a big dyke, etc etc), and very much promote their "family friendly" aesthetic. Whereas others, while still mostly insisting their players be vaguely on the DL are fairly cool with it. (I have a couple queer friends who played college level ball). Obviously when it's not such a team sport, it might be very different, but...

The status is NOT quo.

Is Drew in Chicago?

So that's where he disappeared to. I was beginning to wonder.
