brenda, I agree that all first meals should be strawberry ice cream!

Heh. I remember a college peer who grew up in NC and did a semester out west. She was all "exposed all the time" whereas I felt claustrophobic in NC unless I drove out to a treeless hilltop (and even that wasn't enough.) Desert=norm for me. Blue mountains, beige earth dotted with dusty green, sun bleached oranges and reds, that's earth to me.

The ocean thing still is weird to me. I like it. I like the sounds (and as long as it isn't fishy) the smell and rhythm. But The Horizon Is Too Tall. Will Crush Me.

“Not dead yet!”

I love both ocean and desert-- I just really like huge expanses, really. I like overlooking mountains as well.

What was funny was Kristin and I driving along the Pacific and both of us waxing rhapsodic over the gray-green crankiness of the Atlantic.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Jesse, did you see my fluevog black/brownish spectator pumps link?

I did. Fluevogs in general are Not For Me.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

That's great, Kat!

I love the openness around large bodies of water (the ocean, the Great Lakes, etc.). That's one of the things I miss when I'm back in the hill and tree constrained Triangle. It's like I can breathe a little better near the shore.

Now tagless for your comfort.

Kat, that's amazing ice cream news! I highly approve of the first food choice.

I love the ocean but to look at it and walk along. I'm leery of being submerged (although surfing in Hawaii kicked ass). Midwestern by birth and a little suspicious of large bodies of water.

I bought the kids Moon Sand today (yeah, the stuff you can buy on tv, except we got it at Target). Dude, that stuff is FUN...for uh...kids. Yeah. Squishy and it molds really well. We put it in a long, shallow storage tub and I swear the kids played with it for over an hour.

The mess isn't too bad, since we put the tub on a plastic sheet and we were in the laundry room. A bit more messy than playdoh but not too bad. Definitely on the fun side of messy.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

But The Horizon Is To Tall. Will Crush Me.

Not an issue at Ocean Beach today as the fog was thick and you couldn't see more than 500 feet in any direction, including Up.

Super pleased for Gracie's ice cream adventure. She deserves tasty treats!

hip deep in pie

sara, the desert freaks me out.

It freaked me out too. In a this weird, alien and bizarre. But I couldn't stop thinking about it when I left. I would love to get back someday.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I stand corrected!

Different people like different shit.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I'm not crazy about woods, either. Basically, I only like the city and the ocean. Good thing I live here!
