Nana korobi, ya oki. (Fall down seven times, stand up eight.) ~Yuzuru Hanyu/Japanese proverb

I know! I tear up whenever I see them together.

The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

In my family we give presents for un-birthdays, because there are more of them in the year. When inspiration strikes, it's "Hey, I got you something. Happy Un-Birthday!"

When we have lists, we let others know, but there is no obligation to stick to them. I tend to look through lists for things that I would like too. When inspiration fails I default to munchies from HarryAndDavid.com.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

There was a Harry & David outlet store in the outlet mall on the way to my parents' new place. This summer we had oodles of Moose Munch. Mmm.

I think I have a new default, now, too!

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

In Men's 400 Hurdles oh, they could not be cuter about that sweep! I have never seen such a pile of happy in all my life. and I've got to say, that was some refreshing God thanking. They talk about being blessed to be there and to have the support of the country but they don't make it sound like the Almighty is picking sides in athletic contests.

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

And, um, if someone could come beat the fuck out of the guy next door who is using a jackhammer to tear up his patio at 8:40 at night? That would be awesome.

Apart from sports, "my secret favorite thing on earth is ketchup. I will put ketchup on anything. But it has to be Heinz." - my husband, Michael Vartan

Thanks, Tiggy!

I am giggling over the fact that Kat is a L.E.G.S. gymnast. And how cute is Noah? TOO CUTE.

And I want Jesse to be my Olympics pal because I can't wait for rhythmic gymnastics either. (At the last studio we had our ballroom dancing classes at, there was a kids rhythmic class. Those girls are so bendy it's sick. And amazing.) Or trampoline. And even more artistic gymnastics, where I want super-adorable Shawn Johnson to score a gold. I realize it's not a lock on beam, and I'd settle for silver, but I'd like her to have a gold of her own.
