Is it true that one can't buy absinthe in the US? I thought it would make a neat gift for someone, but then there's all this mystery about whether customs can seize it.

It recently became legal again.
absintheonline.com is what Matt (and I think Jilli) rec'd to me. I know that site has a disclaimer about how it can't ship to certain countries, but shipping to the US is fine.
It is expensive as fuck, though, because they're in the UK. Stupid exchange rate.
And yeah, there have been a couple of brands for sale in the US recently. I've heard mixed reviews, though.

I have old-school-illegal absinthe I got in Prague and smuggled back in. Or rather, put in my luggage.
So. I just started paying the difference in pre-school tuition for a friend who can't afford that difference. I've always been uncomfy with money and friends/family and that is raising all that, and I've had to give her money before as a "loan" I know will not be repaid, and I knew it at the time. But. But. It's the only option. So I do it. At worst, it is a couple K a year that I can plead out of if it becomes a breaker for me. At best, I'm giving a little girl an opportunity she'd not otherwise have. So.
