Buffista Movies 6: lies and videotape

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

I adore American Splendor with a love beyond words. That movie also made me adore Paul Giamatti with a love beyond words, and John Adams cannot be put out on DVD fast enough, dammit.

A Love & Rockets movie.

That would be super awesome, Corwood. This so needs to happen, now.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

That makes me think: you know what would be awesome? A Love & Rockets movie.

In the wrong hands, though, I shudder to think.

Compassionately intolerant

Oh, I loved Hellboy, though I confess to never reading the source material.

I think the Mickey Rourke storyline ruined the rest of Sin City for me. And the Yellow Bastard storyline didn't so much skeeve me in a fun way but just disgusted me. Not to mention the weird editing where the dead Elijah Wood character reappeared mysteriously at the conclusion of the Bruce Willis story.

I wanted to like the Bad Girls beat up on Benicio story but it seemed as if the 'heroes' were as brutal as the bad guys.

Because books.

I loved Hellboy and Constantine, but again, never knew anything about the source texts.

I have a soft spot for Keanu when he's not murdering a British accent, though.

It's Miller time.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

I loved Hellboy and liked Constantine but had no knowledge of the comics. I also loved Ghost World and liked American Splendor with no knowledge of the source texts.

I hope they don't screw up Y: The Last Man.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I read an interview with Mike Minghella, and he wants to find a way to do more Screw-on Head stuff. I could SO get behind that.

WANT!

I'm not sure there are words to express my love for Amazing Screw-on Head. It was like someone scooped out the "THINGS JESS REALLY LIKES, SUBCAT STEAMPUNK" part of my brain and put it on TV.

I can't quite bring myself to say I loved Constantine, because on just about every objective level I can look at it with, it was really not a good movie. But Tilda Swinton and Keanu have a way of making me go all wibbly and fangirly over things that otherwise don't deserve it, so...yeah.

Also? Really, REALLY funny. I've shown my DVD to a few people, and they've totally lost it laughing.
