Hated Closer (I need to be able to root for somebody in a story) and I found Just Like Heaven to be delightful and fluffy and funny, which I wasn't expecting (the delightful and funny part). Of course, apples and oranges, those two movies. In fact, I think you'd need to watch a bit of fluff after a movie like Closer, even if you liked it, just to cleanse the palatte.
Buffista Movies 6: lies and videotape
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
is Closer (Julia Roberts, Clive Owen, Jude Law, natalie Portman), a bad, boring movie, or was I just in a bad mood.
You actually made it through the whole film? I lasted about 25 minutes, tops.

I did start cleaning my apartment after about 20 minutes. The best thing I could say about it was that I really liked Julia Roberts look, and the way her face has started to wrinkle. I did miss a bunch of the Clive Owen part while taking out the garbage.
Heh, I also really liked Closer. The characters are mostly abhorrent, but the performances from all 4 (even JR!) are so strong and nuanced. Clive Owen completely blew me away.
I never figured out how to pronounce "Closer". Is it the noun or the adjective?
I agree with Jess on the dream aspect of SCIENCE OF SLEEP. Unfortunately, I spent the bulk of the movie wanting to smack the lead character around until he stopped being such a whiny little brat, which mitigitated the very real pleasure I was getting from the effects (that is, the dream-like qualities, not the special effects per se) Gondry was pulling off.
I think it is the adjective-- because they get closer and closer to each other. I also think that I can't deal with abhorrent characters. I also disliked Taxi Driver (not that they are at all the same kind of film).
Some of the effects stuff was beautiful.

But yes OH MY GOD STOP CRYING.

Pretty sure that was the intended effect. He's not supposed to be a guy you admire.

I didn't need him to be admirable. I needed him to be someone I didn't want to strangle.
