Buffista Movies 6: lies and videotape

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

Just to complicate matters, I'll toss in the fact that I had a relative who loved Precious Moments figurines, but didn't consider them Art. Cute, sweet, precious, adorable, and all sorts of variants on wee and darling, but for all that she was under their spell she didn't at all think of them in the same way she thought about the Monet and Seurat prints she had on her walls.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Is Hello Kitty art? Because I consider Precious Moments and Hello Kitty in the same league.

Never fall in love with somebody you actually love.

I think the definition of if something is art is absolutely personal. Any time you say 'That's rubbish, it's not art', you're wrong. 'cos somebody might see it in exactly those terms.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Because I consider Precious Moments and Hello Kitty in the same league.

See, only one of those lines would have a vibrator, and I think that's an important distinction.

But no, as much as I get snotty about Precious Moments, I know there are people who are touched by the sentiment and take it seriously. They are not me, but they do exist. I saw the chapel. Whoa.

They are not Monet or Seurat, but that hand-carved soapstone elephant I brought back from Kenya isn't either.

Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

I think the very first person who drew Hello Kitty would consider their professionto be in the arts.

Ooh I dare you to post that where certain other Buffistas post. Natter or Bitches - maybe either; maybe both. Although I think ita is right with her point:

See, only one of those lines would have a vibrator, and I think that's an important distinction.

On the other hand, it could be an interesting art project to design a line of Precious Moments vibrators. We should send them to Fred Phelps and James Dobson if it ever comes (heh) to pass.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

(laughing out loud)

I usually accept dares, but I think I'll duck this one!

BTW, are we sure there isn't a Precious Moments vibrator? Seems like a missed opportunity...

are we sure there isn't a Precious Moments vibrator?

what's that law that says we just created one? Either way I'm not brave enough to google it.
