A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

And Die Hard. And Blow Dry.
Yes! He's awesome in Die Hard!
I've watched many a movie of dubious quality for the sake of Alan Rickman. Mesmer. Close My Eyes. An Awfully Big Adventure. OK, I have a weird fondness for that last one, mostly because Hugh Grant cheeses it up, playing a giant jackass, and Rickman's character is so freakin' tormented.
His IMDb trivia page says Richard Curtis badly wanted Rickman to play Charles, the main character in Four Weddings and a Funeral. Huh. I'm having trouble picturing it, but it makes me sad because I think it'd have been fun to see him turning up the charm.
Hugh Grant seems like the only choice for that awkward, clueless kind of role, but I bet Rickman could have done it really well.
I liked Rickman in January Man, too.
Oh, and "Something the Lord Made", with Mos Def.
Edit: And "Love Actually", though Emma Thompson completely steals that storyline.
Rickman was the best thing in THE JANUARY MAN, which isn't saying much, although I really enjoy parts of that movie (beyond the scenes with Rickman). The bad stuff is really awful, though.

Yeah, it really was a mix of bad stuff wrapped around an interesting though improbable serial killer idea with little chunks of "neat!" here and there. But on the whole a subpar movie.
I did really like that the killer wasn't anybody in particular and nobody in the cast knew him. That was refreshing. White-fonted in case anybody wants to bother to see the movie.
