No, there have been no changes made to the login code.
This has probably come up before, but, is this quote stuck in the upper right-hand corner for everyone:

It's there on purpose, as part of the effort to reduce database connections.
We shut off the quote generator to help solve the simultaneous connection problem.

Instead of taking bets on who was gonna ask first, we should have taken bets on who's gonna ask LAST.
Which means we might as well turn it back on, since it is only one connection out of the six or so connections used per page view. If it really makes a difference, we're dead at the first watch and post even with it turned off.
Any word on how server load is doing?
