I hate to break it to you, oh impotent one, but you're not the big bad anymore, you're not even the kind of naughty.

Nobody

A banner ad to Amazon doesn't bother me, because plenty of us talk about what we've ordered on Amazon, and what's in our gold boxes, etc., at least a couple of times a week. To me, it's capitalizing on word-of-mouth advertising that we already do.

Pop-ups? No. I'll give not only money, but blood, to avoid pop-ups, but I don't think anyone has suggested them, Wolfram. We already link to Amazon in a quiet spot, and the point has been made that people forget to use the link.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Dudes, we are so far from needing pop-ups, it's....well, it's really far. One, we've got a large community of people who'd rather donate to the site than see them, and two, Kristen just said we probably don't need a dedicated server after all, in which case, AFAIK, we're not hurting for funds. (Jesse's got the actual numbers, but I'm assuming if we were low she would have mentioned it by now.)

WRT the Amazon thing, I was just thinking of what we've got now, only moreso -- links to the all the Buffy & Angel (& eventually Firefly, and maybe Farscape?) DVDs with Jon's store id (or a separate Buffista store id, if we wanted one), so that every time a Buffista orders another season of Buffy, the board gets a leetle bit of cash out of it. I think the FAQ is a fine place for them.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

If we don't need a dedicated server, we don't need lots more money right now. Of course, I'm always happy to take contributions at any time.

I know, I just wanted to make it clear that I am also firmly in the bleed me with a fork before having pop-ups camp.

Because it's in too quiet a place. I've read the FAQ many times since registering, and I can never remember that we have an Amazon link there.

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

Ummm... No one has seriously suggested pop-ups. Noumenon mentioned it as a joke, but that was it.

Right. And so a well-placed banner ad (if need arises) would eliminate the forgetting it's there phenom.

We got that.

Please tell me if I'm getting annoying about this, because that's not my intention, and I'll shut up.

I think, if we want to raise substantial money this way, something more obvious then the FAQ link, but less obstrusive than a banner ad could be attempted first (like a Buffiliates link). That way scores of retailers could pay us money for doing what we do anyway, instead of just Amazon, and we wouldn't need any banner ads.

S to the A -- using they/them pronouns!

Considering we're not planning on getting any, you're right. I think, for the time being, until monetary funds other than what we donate becomes necessary, the Amazon thing is a good idea if you remember, but not a pressing issue.

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

Again, we're getting ahead of ourselves. We have enough money in the bank for our immediate and future needs as things are currently set up. There are things that we can do technically that should allow us to maintain that status. I don't think we need to discuss schemes to raise oodles of cash until and unless our status does change.

Or what SA said. :)
