Giles: Stop that, you two. Riley: He started it... Xander: He called me a bad name! I think it was bad; it might have been Latin.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

I guess I should bump Ministry of Time up in the TBR queue so I can know what y’all are talking about.

I love putting books on hold at the library because technically they are not added to my TBR yet, they are future -t’s scheduling problem and will arrive with a deadline so I won’t, you know, forget I meant to read that soon

Greenteeth sounds so familiar to me I was sure I’d already read it but I can’t find any record of it and the plot summary makes me think I think I did not. Some other book featuring Jenny Greenteeth, perhaps?

Also, went to a physical bookstore today, yay! Only bought one book, a paperback copy of The Moon is Down by John Steinbeck, which I have never heard of before but was on the Staff Picks shelf and looks timely and intriguing.

Now I have two independent bookstores in the county that I need to split my bookshop. org and libra.fm purchases between. I will have to work out a system

Nice, -t! I hadn't heard of that one either -- look forward to hearing what you think.

Today is Ministry of Time reading day, and then I'm meeting friends for Sinners and dinner after. Laze and read day is progressing nicely!

Finished Ministry of Time today. I really liked it, and also agree that the mix of sci-fi, romance, thriller were weighted sort of strangely... but I also cared enough about the characters that I was fine just riding the waves with them. I dont think I found the end confusing... would love to talk about that.

Now I need to figure out what's next... I couldn't get in to Ancillary Justice, so I'm going to return that one. I have The Three Body Problem, but I started watching the series at one point, so now I wonder whether I'll get impatient with the book. Eh, you know what, I'll give it a shot. Tomorrow, I'm returning everything else to the library and starting fresh!

I'll have to scroll back and make a list from recent recs.

I couldn't get in to Ancillary Justice

Oh, really? I love those books so much, but I can't remember now if it took a while to get into them or not. I do remember that I didn't even pick them up for a long time because I somehow got them confused with Patricia Briggs's Mercy Thompson books but I'm pretty sure that's not your issue. Would really be something if it was!

Ministry of Time keeps getting bumped from the top of my TBR by library books because I own it so it's not on deadline. Weird little unintended consequence.

Hmm. OK, maybe I won't give up on it yet, then. God knows you all were right about not giving up on the Expanse series. (Still miss them!)

If you do decide Ancillary is not for you, maybe give The Raven Tower a try, that is my actual favorite Ann Leckie

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

If you bounced off of Ancillary Justice, you may find Three Body Problem a similar challenge. I listened to them both on audio, which helped get me through the dense sci-fi politics. I have a feeling if I'd been reading with my eyeballs I would have skimmed too much and missed important things.

Thrive to spite them

I liked Ancillary Justice series but somehow I got through the first book and didn't realize the gender issues until part way through the second and had to go back and reread it
