Fan Fiction: Writers, Readers, and Enablers
This thread is for fanfic recs, links, and discussion, but not for actual posting of fanfic.
Hmm.. I've done a handful of Buffyverse (all short), a couple SV (ditto), various drabbles and short shorts in the DCverse. One current WIP that might even reach a couple thousand words if I'm very lucky. And many, many bunnies and never-finished projects. Never done a crossover, probably because I've never seen most of the shows out there.
Look upon my mighty output and despair!
I had no way of knowing that, FWIW. I thought Jenny was just taking her whole grad student-ness a bit too seriously.
Which made me wonder WTF was up with her, but didn't trigger my "Ah, she's joking" meter.
wrod - evidently it's a cracking post if you've been in on the whole fracas and seen the stuff it's parodying/responding to, but coming to it without that context I kind of assumed Jen was just writing as herself. Relieved to hear that wasn't the case.
(Um, also painfully aware that I don't know diddly squat about this whole Kyobe thing that ginmar cited, although I gather he's been accused of rape by someone? Or something?)
Kobe Bryant? He's a basketball player for the LA Lakers, and has indeed been accused of rape. The press has played fast and loose with the alleged victim -- I think all of her contact information has been published somewhere or another.

I've written in:
Huh. Must write in more fandoms, stat.

Good lord. That's all kinds of not cool.

On one of the morning news shows, some reporter was interviewing a psychologist. We got about a minute and a half of the reporter asking, "Doesn't the fact that this girl has been reported to be a 'major party girl' and have gone out drinking with several men, and that she was known as a flirt, compromise the credibility of her testimony?" Then the psychologist got about three seconds to reply, "No, it doesn't," before they cut to some guys who lived in the same dorm with her freshman year talking about how she'd go out drinking three or four times a week.
Well, anything about the woman's sexual past is not admissible in court, unless it's being used to rebut statements by the prosecuter. (Like, if the prosecuter says that the woman was a virgin, then the defense is allowed to bring in guys who say they slept with her before.) But according to my sister, who's a lawyer (she just walked in the room, so I figured I'd ask her), there are no laws against newspapers or TV reporting things like that; it's just generally agreed that it's Not Done.
And this is legal?
Not really, no. There's all kinds of room for defamation of character suits and the like in there. Unfortunately, though, that would put the woman more into the spotlight.
There are reasons the alleged victim's name isn't usually reported in cases like this.
Why is her identity open knowledge?
I've written (sadly, my archive is a bad count) 50 or 60 AtS and BtVS pieces, two pieces of political slash, one Smallville, and one popslash piece. Oh, and one co-written HCL/AtS PWP.
Stories range from drabbles to novellas, generally falling under short story or short shorts.
