Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

I picked up a book this past weekend called "I hate myself and want to die."(subtitled the 52 most depressing songs you'll ever hear) The author tended to stick to songs that were hits. It was quite funny, and had catagories like "I was a teenage car wreck", "I hate her, she hates me" and "Horrifying covers of already depressing songs".

Anyone else read it?

So, Tom Waits fans, if you haven't been paying attention, he's got a three disc box set titled Orphans coming out November 21st. It's all unreleased stuff that didn't belong on particular albums.

Very cool YouTube clip of Sylvie Vartan, Petula Clark and Francoise Hardy on a French 1964 xmas special.

Francoise is wearing black leather (in '64! How very Avengers), and has a featured bit about 3:35 into the clip where she's just unbearably beautiful and cool. Sylvie looks rather like Drew Barrymore here. Classic sixties franco pop.

I watched We Jam Econo yesterday during my son's nap, but he woke up towards the end and came in to watch with me. One of my proudest moments as a dad came at the end when, after a powerful acoustic performance of "History Lesson Pt II," my son, who'd been watching rapt, turned to me and said "More? More? More?". We rocked out to the video to "This Ain't No Picnic."

I hear you. Have you seen it yet? I've been a Minutemen fan since I was 15 (two years after D. Boon died), so I knew what was coming, but it was still a blow to the belly, especially seeing how fresh that loss still is to Georgie and Watt, 20 years later.

That doesn't surprise me. Mike Watt is one of the most genuinely nice guys in music, so I can believe he's still shaken up.

(He's also playing bass with the new Stooges right now, which I'm finding terribly exciting.
