Curious that without Pet Sounds there's no Sergeant Pepper, and without Otis Blue there's no Aretha's "Respect" (and presumably, I Never Loved...) -- yet in both cases, the original influence is ranked lower than what came after.
And as I type the edit, the radio comes out with -- "Respect."
Wasn't NEVER MIND THE BOLLOCKS... basically posthumous to the band as a working band? Or was the aborted tour of the US the tour to support the album?
NMtB was released Oct. 77. They played their last UK show Christmas 77. The US tour was in January 78 at the end of which they broke up.

TiVo alert for Hec: The New York Dolls are on Conan O'Brien tonight.
The New York Dolls are on Conan O'Brien tonight.
Thanks, Scola! I'm actually interested in getting their new album.
I'm too lazy to google - how many of the original Dolls are
not
in the current band (besides Thunders, of course). Are any other original members dead?
Johansen & Sylvain are the only ones still alive. They are both in the "reunited" band.
edited to note that Arthur Kane
was
in the reunited band's first performance at Meltdown in 2004 before he died shortly afterwards.
Over the past few years, I have posted about Split Lip Rayfield about forty krazillion times. Here I go again.
Late last year, Kirk Rundstrom, the guitarist, was diagnosed with cancer and started intensive treatment. Very sadly, that treatment was not as effective as hoped, and Kirk has been given 4-6 months to live.
To keep his spirits up and make some money to pay off medical bills, all four members of SLR (so Wayne, the mandolin player that left the band two years ago, will join them) will tour through August in the cities and venues that have loved them the most. Outside of a bunch of shows all over KS and MO, they will be playing two shows in Austin and one in Chicago.
I just bought my tickets to the show here with a heavy heart but the same sense of excitiment I have had every time I know I am going to see them live.
If you live someplace near where they are playing and love crazy punked out bluegrassy rock - you should go.
How sad. I'm reminded of Dom from "Ed's Redeeming Qualities." When his hair fell out due to chemo, the rest of the band (Carrie included)shaved their heads in solidarity.
