Hecubus, sir, thank you for the Tom Waits covers. I have a friend that may explode with joy when he comes to hear Tim Buckley cover 'Martha'.

Buffista Music III: The Search for Bach
There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.
Anyone? Bueller? Tina?
Absolutely!! I have a queen size futon available as well. Are you or FAQ!wife allergic to the cats? Because I have two. Barring any feline allergies, mi casa es su casa. Oh, also, I have the world's worst shower - just for full disclosure purposes.
My office is moving across town that weekend so I may have some small work obligations - but nothing to keep me away from attending many a good show at the Hideout and hanging out about town.
One other note - I live on the far north side of town (just north of Bryn Mawr and three blocks from the lake if you want to look and/or stalk my general neighborhood) right off the red line. The Hideout isn't really near a train stop so there will be some hoofing/cabbing necessary (I have no auto) all together it's a 30ish minute train ride and then a 10 minute (if even) cab ride or 15 minute fast walk from my place. I wouldn't be offended if you said yes to an offer nearer to the Hideout.
I don't mean to discourage you at all - just wanted to give you all pertinent info.
Shoot me an e-mail. Profile add. is good.
Either way, this is exactly the kick in the ass I need to meet up with other fabulous chicago-istas. Plus Touch and Go!! Very exciting.
Hey, Corwood, Fiery Furnaces today on Fresh Air.
Gracias! I'll give it a listen as soon as I can.
Strange double post there. I listened and it was a good interview.

Latest CD purchase: Iggy Pop's Raw Power. It sez "Remixed by Iggy Pop!" on it. Is this the original mix that he did that was rejected in favor of someone else's mix? If not, are they similar?
eta: My other purchase - best of Material Issue. I saw in this article [link] that today is the tenth anniversary of the suicide of Jim Ellison (I wasn't familiar enough with the band to know he killed himself). Reading the article made me buy the album.
Valerie Loves Me!
Power pop guys are always a high suicide risk. (see; Badfinger, guy in Gin Blossoms who wrote all their hits, et al)
Iggy never loved Bowie's mix of Raw Power, which was the original mix. Iggy was given the opportunity to remix the original from the master tapes a few years ago. It's much harder now and more of a Stooges album, though I kind of miss the delicacy on things like "Gimme Danger."

Huh. For some reason I thought that Iggy mixed it first, but the record company decided that he'd messed it up so they called Bowie in to mix it (and Bowie's was the version that was first released). Or am I thinking of some other Iggy album?
I think you're right, Tommy, but the reissue is a new mix by Iggy which is different from both of the earlier ones.
