Jon, was there specific technique/rhythm/etc. to this that was different from the other theremin parts?
I played in a lower range than the others and sometimes played more rhythmically rather than melodically.
Did the different parts equate to other musical ensembles
Hard to say. We used to say that the woman who played guitar and violin was like our drummer because she was the glue that held us together.

Did you hear Jon Stewart's take on Cheney's rider? Salon has the clip: [link]

I can see how important that would be. Touch on a string is a definite, deliberat beat for the dance of theremin playing. Is there any other instrument that you *don't* touch to play it?
Thanks for the insight, and the Stewart link. I miss him - my new cable co. doesn't carry Comedy Central. (I had CC there, but kept thinking I was talking about
our
CC)

There are some synths that have an infrared detector, but otherwise none that I can think of. It's one of the defining characteristics of the theremin.
May I mention how much I love "The Beautiful Calliopa" in Jon's set? If this was the kind of music that played on
The Banana Splits
all the time, I have misunderestimated the series.
Hec, I'm slowly catching up in other threads. Sorry about the job situation, man. The asshats make it hard to live with a little grace.
Oh, I'm having a braino -- what is the Iggy Pop song that quotes from Gershwin's "Summertime"? I can hear him breaking into it, but I can't remember which one it is!
Thanks, Mr. Industries!
I was looking over the cowbell song list and thinking it was possible to put together an all-cowbell mix, though I'd have to purchase a few songs to do it with. (Naturally, I'd only use Theo-favored songs.) Though, if I don't get to use a few non-cowbell favorites in my mix I'll explode....
