I don't know if this helps, but I always find saying "I do not wish to play with you" an effective response to strife in both real and fake worlds.
Anyone who still mistakes the Muppet Show as being strictly for kids should look at this show
The muppets were my first tv love. I have a picture my mom took, from when I was two years old, watching them with the biggest smile all over me. Obviously, I didn't understand a word they were saying in English. Even more obviously, I couldn't read the subtitles. And even more obviously, I had no cultural connection to what was going on in front of me, at all. And still, I was completely in love. It would be very interesting to watch that show as an adult.
Nilly, that's very funny. You were probably just thinking " Noisy bouncing fuzzies!" which, really...that hold great appeal at that age. Hey, it explains Elmo, for crying out loud.
Doesn't explain the nephew's obsession with Santa, though. That remains a mystery.

sara, I have no way to explain the level of my in-loved-ness at that age, other than that. I loved "Little House on the Prairie" around that age as well, but with that, my mom was sitting next to me translating and explaining what was going on. My mom says I loved Kermit for ever, even without understanding a word.
