Here's why summer is great, and yet at times a beautiful inversion of the natural order.
Emmett: Can I have another peach?
Me: Not until you finish another slice of pizza. You've been gobbling so many peaches and nectarines this week you've got the trots.
Emmett: Awwww. I haven't even finished my first slice of pizza.
Me: No fresh fruit until you eat your pizza!
Emmett: How about canned peaches?
Me: Pizza!
Me: No fresh fruit until you eat your pizza!
Heh. But Daaaaaaaad! You're so meeeeeeeeean!!!

This month's Gourmet came in the mail yesterday and it is peachariffic. Amongst others there was a really divine looking ice wine sorbet with peaches (the sorbet was served over cut peaches) recipe. mmmm
Now I want pizza. Peaches, not so much.
I ate a peach earlier today. It was divine.
Nectarines are much better, imo
I want a nectarine now.
And to get that stupid "Summer summer fruits from California, it wouldn't be summer without them." jingle out of my head.

I'm a plum and cherry fangirl, but Dapple Dandy pluots have won me over this year. They're almost spicy and soooo nummy.
I had a nectarine for breakfast. Yum. They're best when firm - I like the crunch when I bite into one.
My other favorite summer fruits are cherries, strawberries & raspberries.
I have a bag full of cherries in my fridge that I haven't even opened. I hope they're still good.
