Giles, if you would like to get by in American society, then you are going to have to follow our traditions. You're the patriarch. You have to host the festivities, or it's all meaningless.

The status is NOT quo.

Hi shrift!

I got nothing. I'm just trying to bring it back to life.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Maybe they are "soul-mates"

Sounded more like drunken grope-mates.

Frankly, I find the latter less squicky, I think because I'm not second-guessing anyone's true motives.

What is even happening?

I know, poor shrift.

Hey, was that 90 car pile up anywhere near you? It got a lot of news coverage, or seemed to, because I don't watch the news, and still heard about it several times. I think our news casts led with it, that night.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

How impolite is it to take a sharpie to a sign in a public place at work? I mean, it's just a printout ... that mentions the existence of two search criteria's.

It's driving me batty.

It's done all the time here at the Evil Empire in Redmond.

ita, you're a project manager, right? Why can't I have you on the projects I work on? If I could have you as the PM, and Betsy as my tech writer, my work days would be SO much nicer.

I was charmed (albeit somewhat perplexed) by the fannish sensibility of many of the music choices -- it's like the director was trying to vid Canada. --loligo on the Olympic Opening Ceremonies

It's only impolite if you get caught. (Well, even then I wouldn't say it was impolite, but I'd find it awkward. I always wait to be alone before doing that kind of thing.)

ita, I feel your pain.

In the girls' bathroom at school, there are the usual scrawled messages on the stall walls. "Your a f*cking c*nt bitch" is on one of the doors in dark marker that shows through coats of paint. As a teacher, I should be offended by this profanity. Instead I fight the urge to bring a sharpie in and correct the "your".

This may be an indication that I have issues.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I should put in an office supplies request for Tippex (White Out?) just so I can clean it up.

Jilli, I'd love to! Except for the evil empire thing (though some people may opine that my current employers are their analogue in a different industry).

Which really reminds me I need to go back to interminable PM-related paperwork. Yuck.

Hey, was that 90 car pile up anywhere near you?

About 50 miles north of me, I think. I haven't heard much about it beyond, "Dude, did you hear about the pile up on 131?"
